comment:  I would like to thank Peter & Patricia who gave me the opportunity to listen to your Band's wonderful music when you played at Burton Town Center last X MAS. Although I was there for a short time in Burton on Trent that is one of the most unforgettable moments in my life. Thank you guys keep up the good work.

comment:  Re Band History
I wondered whether you would like to consider amending the band history with one or two things I have come across in my history research. I would be happy to have it checked out and I maybe wrong in assuming that my late father hadn't picked up evrything previously.
1) Newhall had two brass band until May 1913 i.e. Newhall St. John's and Newhall United, when they amalgamated with the colliery mining engineer and manager Robert Hay as President.
2) Newhall St. John's was the most sucessful winning over 60 prizes and 10 medals up until 1911. The band seems to have originally been the Church Army Band. This success was achieved under Band Master, Enoch Booth, who was not a professionally qualified musician.
By 1912 they were desperately appealing for funds for new instruments (sounds familiar)?
The band had regularly made appeals for funds to cover costs to attend the National contest at the Crystal Palace.
1903 2nd
1904 1st - winners of the "Grand Shield"
1910 4th
1911 3rd
The band also arranged concerts introducing bands such as Besses O' the Barn and Wingates Temperance (never understood how a band could have such a name)to perform in Newhall.

How are the bruises, Louise? I saw Richard taking his valves apart last night, and so he obviously wasn't happy...

Missing you all and playing.
Things back her are still abit on the tight side although managing to find a few freelance jobs.
Appolgies to all for not being able to help during
the xmas concerts but those of you that dont know I do disco's (well try to )and i'm tied up doing xmas disco's and they bring in money which is much needed at moment.

comment:  Great concert last night - I was a little disappointed that the bass section didn't premier their dance but I look forward to seeing it next time!
Thanks to everyone for helping with setting up, clearing away and transporting kit. Band's person of the night has to go to Shiela for transporting the drum kit, I don't think I've ever seen a Ford Fiesta so well packed, I'm sure I heard it groan when the last item was loaded, I hope it's recovered now. Although Jo came a very close second for her contribution of bringing the most players to a job, the record to beat is 5.
See you all Tuesday.
